Stephen Snow is a writer, director, producer and editor. Having 'cut his teeth' in many areas over more than two decades, he is expert in some areas and a talented generalist in others. Involved in the arts virtually from birth, Stephen is passionate about the process. It is, in part, his love of the arts that formed his long-held working philosophy: Respect the work, leave the ego at home. PRODUCING - DIRECTING: As a producer and director Stephen has been called a perfectionist with a soft touch, clear vision and guiding hand. On set or in the theatre, he is charismatic leader who is always interested in working with others and taking on new projects, new challenges.
Stephen has the ability to inspire others to be their best. At the same time he understands that no one person has all the answers. So he believes in asking questions. That is what he has been doing his entire life - asking questions, and trying to answer them.
The arts themselves challenge us to ask questions, to examine our perspective and broaden our horizons. In short, the arts teach us about life. As a director and producer on any project, Stephen remains ever-vigilant with this idea in mind. What is the story we are trying to tell, and why are we telling it? If one can answer those questions one has a good chance of telling the story well, and maybe, just maybe touching someone else's life. FILM/VIDEO PRODUCTION, LIVE VENUE As a screenwriter, director and producer, Stephen has produced and directed his own works, and has served to guide several crews to success on small-budget features, short films and various commercial and performance-video projects. As the artistic director at The Palace Theatre, a 1999-seat venue, and as the co-founder, artistic director and gallery owner at the Center for New Media and the Arts in Bethel, Connecticut, Stephen has produced and directed scores of live events and productions from stage plays, dance and live music productions, comedy, spoken word poetry slams, gallery curating, arts-learning workshops, charity benefits, fundraisers and more. Stephen believes in working with other filmmakers, artists and editors, writers and directors to help see their projects to fruition. In short, he believes in art, and the arts as a collaborative process. The constant goal is to deliver quality work while charging reasonable fees. That is the commitment. EDITING - Final Cut Studio 7, Adobe Premiere Pro A former software trainer at Apple Computer, Stephen has nearly ten years experience editing in Final cut Studio. He edited all the video on this website, and has worked on many other projects not shown here. Rates are per project or per hour, depending on the size, scope and nature of the work involved. CAMERA and LIGHTING Having served as both Cinematographer and Second Unit Camera on two feature films, Stephen's camera-work is finely tuned with a subtle awareness, and eye to framing and shot style. His knowledge of cameras and both film and stage lighting are significant. SCRIPTING SERVICES An honors graduate of the Writing Program at Columbia University, Stephen studied screenwriting with several wonderful professors, including the prolific master screenwriter, Terry Southern. Southern's credits include Dr. Strangelove, The Loved One, The Cincinnati Kid, Easy Rider and The Magic Christian. Stephen's short stories have twice been compared to Hemingway for their descriptiveness, and their ability to affect nuanced emotions and stir base memory in the reader. Another strong suit is dialogue. Stephen has an ear for writing dialogue so that while it may well be a 'heightened', crisper language it feels and sounds natural for actor and audiencey. Writing samples are available. Also recommended is to watch Fall to the Son, which was a top-ten finalist in the Tribeca online Film Festival in 2005. PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT Having been on several film crews, Stephen recognizes the enormous value in developing a core group of collaborators. No job is small, and Film-making is tough enough without adding the pressures of personality clashes and ego-driven power plays. Having worked with core crew members over and over again, we can help you put your team together, as well as your overarching production vision. in short, we can help you move it forward. WEB DEVELOPMENT Stephen focuses mainly on building and managing Joomla-based websites, although he can work with simpler HTML sites. Stephen built this website from the bottom up.
